what is especially annoying about not being able to do this is it will search all notebook by default and often will switch to a different notebook automatically so by the time you select search this notebook it is already on the wrong notebook!

Currently I can only access my smallest notebook on Android because of size and not being able to download to SD card and it is 0.5 GB... Just for my smallest notebook! How many gigs would it be to just download my class notebooks for graduate school? Easily dozens or more

I have been using OneNote for a few years now. With every class I use less and less inking. Not because it wouldn't be useful, but because it cannot be anchored or placed inline like a picture or screenshot can.

If text flows and the inking does not, then I have to go to everywhere I inked and select just the inking and move it down. The other problem is I have not found a way to select just the inking without selecting the text that is around it so there is no way to actually move the inking down. This is compounded by the lack of grouping.

Inking has great wow effect but I recommend avoiding it at all costs and using it only as a last result because it cannot be anchored, nor selected, nor grouped.

I am using the 2016 Office version within Windows. I have tried the window app version and the syncing is unreliable while also not being as comprehensive of software so unfortunately cannot make use of the grouping they added to it.

Right now I am forced to take screenshots, ink over those, then paste the image with inking done in line so WHEN (not IF) changes happen it flows and removes this big headache of realigning inking with images, etc. So, no OneNote does not handle all types of inputs well. The one it claims the most, inking, it does the worst if combined with any other input! Changes happen, we need to be able to anchor text and have it move when something above it gets longer or shorter.

Oh, and if you implement this, please include the full Windows version. i cannot go between the app and the windows version yet the app doesn't have much of the capability I use in the windows version.

I vote this as the single biggest problem with taking notes in OneNote. Grouping is absolutely necessary, and anchoring would help greatly in many situations.

For the subject matter, I am taking notes using onenote while pursing my Engineering Masters, and so I must go between typing and sketches every lecture. There is literally nothing to join Inking and typing together into a coherent page. Although with significant limitations, I can insert an object within text and it flows and moves if there are changes above it. With Ink I cannot even shift select objects to move them, much less group and anchor them.

    Lawrence commented  ·

Along with grouping, be able to select and deselect objects intelligently. This is fairly decently accomplished in Word simply by using the CTRL or SHIFT Button. Even if you don't add functionality to make it touch friendly this time around at least I will be able to select the stuff I want and unselect stuff I don't want!

I want to vote for this again since I keep running into this severe limitation.

P.S. And please provide it ASAP, as this should have been in the original release over 10 years ago! Us students would love this in place by the time Fall semester starts.

If OneNote is a school tool, then sell it like one! Updates should correlate to the school year just like school supplies do in stores!

Please add Page-Break View like in excel!!! This is URGENT!

This is among the biggest hindrances to using OneNote for my Grad classes. How the heck am I supposed to print my HW to pdf (or hard copy) to turn it in? I spend way too much time on something that should be semi-automatic. This is so frustrating and one of the reasons I cannot recommend OneNote to my fellow students, because it lacks one of the simplest but easiest things! There may be a better way to do this than page break view, but please provide a reasonable way to print and export to pdf in a clean and professional way!

Why don't we have this yet? I even found a thread where people have been asking for this feature for over 7 years! And in that time very little functionality has been added to OneNote for WIndows. It is very debilitating being a student and not having a good way to print notes. And then try to convince someone to go to OneNote for better collaboration when they are already using a notetaking app that does this, not easy! This should have been in the first Release of OneNote and cannot come soon enough! Please help!

    Lawrence commented  ·

Yes! Page Break View"! This is what it is called in excel and it would be awesome to have in OneNote (ideally with the same capabilities in Excel of being able to adjust the height/width)! This way our OneNote Notes/documents can easily be printer ready, even without setting a page type in each page.

I agree that this is very annoying. If you think about it, by nature the deeper subgroups are going to be more specific, and less likely for someone to constantly have to look through. So it arguably makes more sense for the sub-sub-pages to be collapsed than the top level. But it makes more sense to just be able to collapse them all!!!! :-)

    Lawrence commented  ·

Maybe someone at MS can condense some of these duplicate ideas?! I just listed a couple below but hope someone from MS, can go through and group or condense these (and the other ones)....or even better, implement it and then mark them all as done! :-)

Why is it that there is an unlimited amount of sub-paragraphs that can be created and collapsed (which is great functionality!), yet I can only create 3 levels of pages, and can only collapse the first level? Why is OneNote limiting this, as if they understand all workflows? I would like this both for my school organization, as well as for project organization at work.

This is already functionality in OneNote 2010. You don't need to create bullet points, the mouse turns into a cross hatching just to the left of the paragraph line and you can double click it to collapse it. This is very nice!
