Border around text blocks
It would be nice to be able to turn ON a border around a text or image block. Just like you can see the faint outline when hovering over it, it would be useful to help separate areas of a page into distinct thoughts.
Stretch Goal - Color choice for a border.
Kind of ironic that the URL for this forum is "onenote.USERVOICE.com and yet nobody here has any kind of voice because MS developers don't bother to read it. Am I the only one who thinks it remarkable that this missing feature wasn't frustrating enough for the product testers to immediately complain about during the BETA? At this point, I'm not even interested in a MS response to the problem, I would rather they respond and tell us why this forum post has been straight up *ignored* for the last 6 years.
Picked up Onenote today and I genuinely couldn't believe this wasn't a feature. Word has it, and that isn't even the point of Word. This seems like the most obvious and useful feature they could possibly add.

Can't believe how primitive this is - it's like using Moodle in 2008. This is really basic stuff and would go a long way to improving the layout of pages. Currently resorting to using single box tables and adding a background colour.
its 2021 and this still is not available:( disappointing AF

I was surprised to see so many recent comments on this. But this post was made almost 7 years ago and this still isn't a thing yet? Come on Microsoft
This is a joke. Text box should have a border property. Full stop.
Stupid there isn't an easier/quicker option but I have just doing:
- and then hitting the square and sizing to fit the text box...
Ridiculous you can't just right-click the text box and add a visible box...

Workaround: Add a 1x1 table in the note container.
FFS Microsoft, it's hurting my eyes to see many blocks of text with no visual demarcation
Earth to Microsoft - is there anyone there? This is something you would expect to have been addressed in the first patch many years ago. The ability to add visual structure to a page without resorting to 1x1 tables - which have limitations - would go a long way towards increasing the usability of the product.
How on earth is this still not a feature. It's crucial. it's been 7 years ffs
Love this suggestion.

no need to worry.
just write your text
then go to draw > basic shapes > select rectangle
A WORKAROUND FOR TEXT .... If, and only if, you have Onenote GEM Addon ....
> Select the text that you want to surround with a box.
> Go to the "OBJECT" menu on the ribbon.
> Click on "Insert Box"
This can be a a shaded box depending on the options you have selected.
Options for "Insert Box" are in the bottom-right corner of the OBJECT section on the ribbon.
This is much handier that creating a 1x1 table - especially for existing text.
(Put "Insert Box" on your Quick Access Toolbar).
+1 for this. @Microsoft, are you listening?
Thank you to the user that suggested adding 1x1 table as a workaround. I have been using this since reading your comment.
Keyboard shortcut for that option: select your text block and press Alt > N > T > Enter.
You can then use Table Tools on top to shade the Table cell with color of your choice to highlight and separate different notes.
