Finally fix the spell check
Vote for this if you want the spellcheck fixed.
Onenote always uses the default language. Even if I set another language on a section. Creating a new paragraph causes the default language to be applied again.
Also: the language selector for spell check is terrible. No keyboard navigation is possible (Type e.g. "english").
Working in two languages is really hard in OneNote.
20200923 STILL NOT FIXED!!!!!!!! HOW DIFFICULT CAN IT BE???
Come on, you guys...
This is the 9th most voted suggestion/issue/recommendation in the OneNote UserVoice page and has been going around for more than 6 years... SIX YEARS!!!
Please, make something about it. It is really annoying and frustrating!
I am definitely agreeing with ShadowTani.
In Holland the problem is still the same... has been discussed onto the Windows page in 2014! If I am really honest with you it is such a shame that this problem is still NOT fixed. Please fix it, as many people have the same problem. Either you can change per word the language, or onto 1 page, but not in the whole One Note program (Word etc. can do so, so why not OneNote?).
Page where this toppic has been discussed in 2014 (Note: Dutch only) :
Yes, please let it work like in MS word. It's giving me a lot work of work every day. Can you please fix this.
What the ****... When i press enter for next bullet point, it changes languages. Extremely inconvenient! Fix this please!
Still an issue in 2020!
As some of my projects are of an international nature I prefer using English in some of my notebooks. However, the default language on my computer is Norwegian. Despite having set English as the preferred language both for the display and authoring language OneNote defaults to Norwegian and frequently revert back to Norwegian making me have to manually chose the proofing language over and over again. I understand those of you who designed this software is only on English hardware yourself so you don't get to experience this infuriating issue, but it wastes so much time for those of us on a non-English Windows, so please, fix this!
Fix it a.s.a.p.
Please, we need a solution to this problem...

I'm using my computer in Japanese environment and often write documents and emails in English. I want to have English spell check in my OneNote but it does not work. Word does it perfectly. Even browsers can do it. For this issue, I cannot use OneNote for drafting emails or memos. Please fix it.
+1, still a huge issue.
How is it 5 years and the issue still hasn't been fixed... At this point I really hope Google comes up with an alternative, they're much better at listening to user feedback.

This in itself is already utterly horrible, but it got even worse: even after changing the default language, new notebooks are still created in the old default language, even after restarting Onenote...

Same bugs on MacOS. I expect American companies to struggle to give a good multilingual experience. They seem to have a hard time to think that some peoples use multiple language in their daily life, especially if that language is not one of the official languages of the user's country.
But this bug is one of the most stupid I ever had related to language. I simply bad design and laziness. Fix this bugs: if a user select the full page and set it in one language -> keep this setting. You can go beyond and actually detect the language...
Yesssss! I thought I had a problem with my Onenote. Just like everyone said, it's easy!! Please fix this. Just because of this I always have to write in Word. It makes Onenote really tiresome, when it was supposed to be the compleate opposite!

Any news, Microsoft? It's 2019 and the problem is still here on my new computer. I change the language to Dutch, but every word I add is assumed English.
Take your users seriously, ffs please!!

in Onenote Online, whenever you switch off autocorrect - it switches on again as soon as you exit.
It can't be that hard to fix this issue. Most of the other Microsoft Office products recognize the language after one sentence. Can you just copy and paste this code to OneNote?
I don't like using OneNote because I always have to change the spell check language. I use the German keyboard because my keyboard is German, and because of this the default language for every new item in OneNote is German, even though the whole notebook is in English. So annoying to change the language for every new page/textbox...
Had the same problem, all Office apps on Dutch, Windows 10 on English. All Office apps had spellcheck in Dutch, only Onenote did not. Then I noticed that although all Office apps like Word had a spellcheck in Dutch, Windows 10 - settings - Time and Language - Language did not have Dutch as a language pack. When I added Dutch here, all of a sudden OneNote "knew" Dutch. Strange but worked for me.Might be a solution for some.
you are the worst company ever, please die!!!
