Finally fix the spell check
Vote for this if you want the spellcheck fixed.
Onenote always uses the default language. Even if I set another language on a section. Creating a new paragraph causes the default language to be applied again.
Also: the language selector for spell check is terrible. No keyboard navigation is possible (Type e.g. "english").
Working in two languages is really hard in OneNote.

I'm using my computer in Japanese environment and often write documents and emails in English. I want to have English spell check in my OneNote but it does not work. Word does it perfectly. Even browsers can do it. For this issue, I cannot use OneNote for drafting emails or memos. Please fix it.
+1, still a huge issue.
How is it 5 years and the issue still hasn't been fixed... At this point I really hope Google comes up with an alternative, they're much better at listening to user feedback.

This in itself is already utterly horrible, but it got even worse: even after changing the default language, new notebooks are still created in the old default language, even after restarting Onenote...

Same bugs on MacOS. I expect American companies to struggle to give a good multilingual experience. They seem to have a hard time to think that some peoples use multiple language in their daily life, especially if that language is not one of the official languages of the user's country.
But this bug is one of the most stupid I ever had related to language. I simply bad design and laziness. Fix this bugs: if a user select the full page and set it in one language -> keep this setting. You can go beyond and actually detect the language...
Yesssss! I thought I had a problem with my Onenote. Just like everyone said, it's easy!! Please fix this. Just because of this I always have to write in Word. It makes Onenote really tiresome, when it was supposed to be the compleate opposite!

Any news, Microsoft? It's 2019 and the problem is still here on my new computer. I change the language to Dutch, but every word I add is assumed English.
Take your users seriously, ffs please!!

in Onenote Online, whenever you switch off autocorrect - it switches on again as soon as you exit.
It can't be that hard to fix this issue. Most of the other Microsoft Office products recognize the language after one sentence. Can you just copy and paste this code to OneNote?
I don't like using OneNote because I always have to change the spell check language. I use the German keyboard because my keyboard is German, and because of this the default language for every new item in OneNote is German, even though the whole notebook is in English. So annoying to change the language for every new page/textbox...
Had the same problem, all Office apps on Dutch, Windows 10 on English. All Office apps had spellcheck in Dutch, only Onenote did not. Then I noticed that although all Office apps like Word had a spellcheck in Dutch, Windows 10 - settings - Time and Language - Language did not have Dutch as a language pack. When I added Dutch here, all of a sudden OneNote "knew" Dutch. Strange but worked for me.Might be a solution for some.
you are the worst company ever, please die!!!

Please fix this it doesn't stay on the manually selected language, extremely annoying between spanish and english. Honestly it made me drop the product entirely.
this is really a reason for me to change to another note taking software. bye bye OneNote.
Please change it... it has been almost 5 years since this post has been here.
Unbelievable that this isn't fixed yet! Very very annoying
This is still a problem!

Still having this problem as well. Thought it was a strange bug that it changed spell check language each time i hit return.
(Only work around I found is to uninstall the languages I am not currently writing in from OneNote). I take that back, it still changes back to the default language when I open a new tab, even though the language is no longer installed.
You would think Microsoft have multi language employees who are using their own product. But considering how long this has been an issue it makes me wonder.
Let 2019 be the year this annoying problem will be solved! and preferably in Q1!

I don't understand this. Spell check in word is working great but One Note is not working at all. Aren't you guys the same company???
This is ridiculous. 4 years and still failing to address such basic crucial feature. Sometimes I wonder why even bother using MS products.
