Copy section group to another Notebook
Today, you can MOVE a section group to another notebook, but you cannot COPY it.
User Scenario: We are transitioning a product to another team and our documentation is stored in a OneNote Notebook Section. We are copying our documentation to the new team's notebook and then making updates. To avoid issues during the product transfer, we want to retain a copy of the section group in our current notebook until the transition is complete.
Note that a similar suggestion called "section group" was marked as complete, but the link to the support site in the user voice idea only talks about sharing a LINK to the section group, not to copying the content. Thanks!
I have been given the task of setting up MS Teams and Class Notebooks in my two form entry school. After finding that you could not copy section groups, I posted up the following question in the Microsoft Community area:
"How on earth do you go about duplicating 'Section Groups' in Content Library and all sub folders in One Note 2016. It seems you cannot (apart from the lowest level section group).
So creating a Class OneNote with 6 1/2 terms, with 7 weeks or so in each term and 5 days in each week and then 6 pages on each day is an absolute MAMOUTH task and one that must be easier!!
Any help please? "
The response was that you simply could not and I was linked to this OneNote User Voice section to raise the issue.
Since then I have found another associated flaw which involves creating a Class Notebook using a structure that involved creating a Class Notebook Template by manually creating all of the Section Groups.
Here is my response:
Thank you for your reply.
" As a new user to Microsoft Teams this seems like basic functionality is missing? In order to produce a Teams Structure for a Year Group Class in a school I had to create each Section Group separately and then painstakingly copy each day of the week section into all of the weeks of the terms.
After spending about two hours producing the desired template I then set about creating a new Class Notebook in a test class by using the one I had created as a template. This highlights another major flaw in the process. When creating a Class Notebook from a template you have to drill down through each section group and until you reach the lowest level - the sections.
Then you need select each of these sections to copy, however the maximum amount of sections you can copy is 30 so with 5 days of the week and 6 half terms that leaves 180 that I could not copy and will have to be created again from within the One Note App!!!
This is MS Teams for Education and every school has a similar academic year?
I'll post up in the Voice section and see what comes about. In the meantime my attempt at saving teachers a whole lot of extra work seems to have failed miserably."
This needs to be added as an urgent upgrade.

I have the same need for almost the exact same scenarios that Anonymous and Aaron have mentioned. I think this would be a great feature to add.

This is a very important feature for my workflow. I use a lot of repeating structures and templates today that are defined at the section group level and I have to manually recreate them each time (pretty painful). Please add the ability to copy a section group. Thank you!
