I need the tag functionality to function more like OneNote 2016 desktop app.
- the ability to assign multiple tags to a single item and have them summarized that way
-the ability to customize tags
We appreciate your feedback on tag search and custom tags. We have shipped tag search, other search capabilities, and custom tags for the OneNote app. Please go to the App Store and make sure you have the latest build, explore, and give us feedback on these areas.
Areas to explore and give feedback on –
• Tags in your notebook and pages now appear in your search results
• Search for multiple tags
• Tag suggestions in the search dropdown
• Recent searches
• You can now use quotes around a phrase to search for that exact phrase instead of individual words
• Pivot on page and tag results I the search results pane
• Combined tag and text searches
• Do you get unwanted results?
• Is your regular page search getting impacted in any way?
Areas to explore and give feedback on custom tags –
• The workflow of creating custom tags
• The custom tag icons
• The usefulness of the custom tags
• Deleting a custom tag
Custom tags are the primary reason I'm sticking to OneNote 2016. I think you should relaunch tags as a big productivity feature.....once you've fixed it. There are some really successful todo apps out there but many of us don't want all the extra hassle of capturing, categorizing, etc. The find tags feature in One Note 2016 is an amazing productivity tool where I can tag todo's in my notes and build my list without ever leaving my workflow. Tag while I take notes, then 'find tags' to see my list across page, section, notebook, etc. Major todo list functionality without all the extra work! But tags aren't customizable on every platform - iPad and Win 10 don't work like 2016. And tags in 2016 don't sync to Win 10. And neither Win 10 OneNote nor iPad have the find tags feature from 2016. So frustrating. I need custom tags because I create one for each new project. Then taking meeting notes builds me a project todo list with little or no extra effort.
no need for the icons at all.
there should be a window with all the tags and tags hierarchy where new tags should be added very easily by typing and if not existing by pressing enter the tag will be added to the list (take a look at the evernote)
there should be a tagging added to the web cliper

Also, the ability to import existing OneNote 2016 custom tags would make Power OneNote users more amenable to the switch.

The search for tags works, but it would be useful to be able to have the full list of custom tags so you can tick the ones you wish to search for rather than typing in each one and the output of a list of the tags found on a new page is invaluable for reporting purposes
The tag functionality is incredibly useful, and I would argue it's essential to OneNote's usefulness for most people that it be the best it can possibly be.
That said - it is currently a bit clunky and restricted.
When I create a custom tag, I am limited to only the icons provided by Microsoft OneNote. Why is there no option to add my own icons? Even if a custom icon had to meet certain strict standards, including file size, image size/dimensions, etc... that would be HUGELY helpful.
Also, the ability to create a custom tag that changes would be amazing. Much the way an empty checkbox, when clicked, turns into a checked checkbox... why can we not do the same thing with other icons, and set our own workflow for it? For example, there is a circle with a hole in it (like a donut), then there's also a circle with a dot filling in that hole. Why can we not have the ability to set the donut tag, and then click it to turn it into the filled in donut? Similarly, I'd love to add my own custom icons that can have more than one stage like this. This would make OneNote much more effective for use as a Bullet Journal, which is a growing trend and will make OneNote much more attractive to a wider community of end users.
When I want to finally tag an item in OneNote... I have to click the tag menu and select my tag... but it closes me out of the tag menu once selected. Now I have to go back in and find my place again to add more tags... one at a time... which, by the way, is made more inconvenient by the fact I can't reorder the tag list/menu.
And finally - tag search is a bit clunky and restricted as well. When I search tags, it doesn't actually return ALL the items tagged according to my search. How do I know? I'm on a page of the notebook I'm searching, looking at search results in the left-hand search panel showing some, but not all, of the tagged items that match my query... that are on the page I'm looking at.
And finally, I realize this forum is for OneNote UWP... but WOW we need to bring more tags than just "checkbox" to other devices! I've got this big great list of custom tags, but it's not crossplatform, so when I add an item to a to-do list on the go... what, I have to remember what tags I wanted and add them when I'm at home or at the office? That seems incredibly silly and ineffective.
The tagging feature is, again, a great feature, and crucial to OneNote... but it could use some help in these areas. I am more than happy to help beta test.
