Add "Take a Picture from Camera" functionality on OneNote
OneNote is a wonderful way of taking notes, including personal Notes. It's almost like a journal.
I'd love it if I could take photos of myself or others directly from my camera or web cam while making a personal entry in my notes.
Thank you in advance!
We are pleased to let you know that Inserting a Picture from Camera is already available. Thank you for all your comments and feedback in helping us make OneNote better for everyone to use. You can find this in the Insert ribbon tab under the Pictures menu with the button labelled “From Camera”.
Please read the following article for more information :

As so many here have mentioned. Why is it that OS has a camera option in one note to take quick pictures yet the surface a Microsoft product has not. Is Microsoft not wanting to sell their products to students who is it in class?
Why there is no zoom option while inserting pictures from camera in oneNote? This feature is available in the iOS version of onenote! Just for this reason I don't use oneNote.
This is NOT completed; I cannot take a picture with my camera from OneNote. I can add a video, but not a picture. Crazy. I am using the "desktop" version of OneNote, but on a tablet (a DELL latitude 5825), so it would be really very very useful to have this ability.
the "from camera" button does not appear in my one note (2016)
add for onenote desktop!
Please add camera to onenote 2016 for surface tablet.

Totally agree with all the comments - bring this feature back please
what I need is a link so that when when I take a picture I get a prompt asking me which onenote folder i want to add it to.
Is that available?
I bought the surface pro 4 partly for this. What i liked was what i saw in a review where you can take a picture of any document and it captures it correctly even when you dont stand over the page. Now it seems to have been removed and put back except for laptop version!
Is there another voting page to get this back? I do not want to have to install add-ins that I'm not sure about
Not quite true..
That's only for OneNote apps for mobile. It still does not work with a laptops webcam.
You have a function and then take it away when I "upgrade" to the latest version. Great way to add more value to your product. Bring back insert from scanner and camera.

I see my comment merged here inappropriately. The OneNote Team answer of 9/22/17 does NOT complete my question nor many others attached as misses point. Like many here I am referring to OneNote 2016 (the premium product!) to include the ability to use the onboard camera, eg Surface 4 Pro camera. There is no insert camera pic available. The response provided is for the free Windows 10 metro app. Please review these question and do not mark complete.

Is this functionality included in OneNote 2016? There currently isn't a "From Camera" option in the pictures area on my version of OneNote. Thanks for your help.
This is already available in the Insert > Pictures > From Camera option

If you use Microsoft Office Lens as your camera (only when you want to take a picture to store in a notebook. Not for all of your photo needs), you can do what you are asking. Office Lens runs on Windows, iOS, and Android. Added bonus is that text which appears in the photo can be searched in OneNote:

How can Microsoft leave out such a basic function?! This is such a no-brainer. Surface Pros are priced at a premium compared to competitor products, and as such, commensurate service quality is expected!
I am a Surface Pro 4 user. I have been taking notes at work with it and I loved it. However, tonight at my son's high school parents night, I found some areas of improvement. Typically in occasions like this, there is a PowerPoint presentation on the classroom projector/monitor. It would have been awesome to take notes and inserting photos of the PowerPoint slides from the camera. However, the camera in Onenote cannot zoom and I can't crop the photos within the app. Unless I was sitting right in front of the projector, the photos of the screens will be too small to view. Yes, I could've done some post work to clean up the notes but that is an extra step that could've been avoided.
Another area of improvement is the Ui. Why not make accessing the camera and the audio recording easier? Taking notes in full screen means that for either function, I have to get out of full screen, switch tabs, get back to full screen. To stop recording audio, I have to go through that process again.
Lastly if I am using the type cover tugged behind the device, both the mic and the camera is blocked. The mic is the most affected because when I am writing with the device on the table, the cover is covering the mic.
yes! how can this be such an oversight?
hi, I am using OneNote for a while now and love the whole program. what is missing is the opportunity to directly take a picture out of OneNote and insert that picture in a page. The route via camera, take the picture, save it to Surface and than insert it in OneNote is too cumbersome. thanks, R
