  1. Ability to share individual sections or pages (instead of entire notebooks)

Shared Links to Single Pages of Notes is being removed

We recently removed the ability to share single pages of notes. The previous single-page sharing implementation from personal OneDrive notebooks was our initial attempt to begin building out the larger feature set. However, this first step didn’t satisfy the needs of our customers and, compared to full notebook sharing, usage of the limited page sharing feature was very low. The technical path we need to take to build out the full OneNote page sharing experience requires us to deprecate the previous functionality until comprehensive work on these feature improvements can be completed.

What happens to page links that I’ve already shared with other people?

Previously shared links to single pages of notes will automatically expire as of June 15, 2018. After this date, recipients of shared page links will no longer be able to view these pages, unless a recipient…

  2. Group objects and anchor ink to text and images

Select objects (Handwritings, pictures or text) and group them using right mouse click menu to move objects easily! This also prevents unexpected shifting and enables working with multiple layers.

  3. Ability to password protect an entire notebook (instead of just individual sections)

We need the convenience of being able to easily protect an entire Windows desktop notebook with a password, and then, when opened, have the ability to search the entire notebook. Section by section password protection is a major pain when working with large notebooks with many sections, all of which need to be protected separately. Having the same protection available on all platforms would be the icing on the cake!

  4. Windows: Enhance To-Do functionality with reminders, geofencing, a summary view of all To-Dos, and multi-user completion notifications

Allow individual list items to have associated reminders, to include geofenced, time/date, and programmed event based. Allow these reminders to be synchronized with outlook.com calendars and to do lists, and to provide notifications to users via the OneNote app. Shared notebooks could provide these notifications to multiple users on different platforms. Add a notification for when the list item is complete : ie, let my spouse know when I've picked up the milk. Consider "Bob is working on list X," and "Susie has completed list X" for longer lists, rather than spam notifications. Allow users to determine the type of…

Thanks for voting for this suggestion! We can’t make any promises at this time, but we are definitely considering this feature and would love to hear more about how you would use it and why it’s important to you. If you haven’t done so already, please feel free to add a comment with this information.

  5. Send to OneNote Tool Function

In Office 2013, the "Send to OneNote Tool" had a simple function to insert PowerPoint into OneNote. I could open a PowerPoint or Word document, click on the tool, and OneNote would insert the printout into the section of my choosing. This function is gone in the new 2016 version. Please bring it back,. I used it DAILY as a graduate student.

  6. Keep Outlook Integration In OneNote for Windows (Like 2016)

One of the most powerful feature is the ability to tag things as Outlook Tasks. Also the ability to create a OneNote page from a meeting. These features are the heart and soul of OneNote.

  7. Templates in UWP

If you're going to remove OneNote from Office 2019 and recommend people use the less full featured OneNote UWP app...you need to add pageTemplates from OneNote 2016/365 to the UWP app.

    All functionality for Page Templates,
    Creating a template
    Saving a template
Using a Template as default for a note section

  8. Finally fix the spell check

Vote for this if you want the spellcheck fixed.
Onenote always uses the default language. Even if I set another language on a section. Creating a new paragraph causes the default language to be applied again.
Also: the language selector for spell check is terrible. No keyboard navigation is possible (Type e.g. "english").
Working in two languages is really hard in OneNote.

  9. Windows Store app: Page breaks and page sizes for printing

Vote for this suggestion if you want to have more page size-related options for printing in OneNote's Windows Store app. This includes setting the page size, showing page breaks, and other similar functionality.

  10. One Note for Windows 10 lacks many of the basic features available on OneNote 2016

I'm not quite sure how Microsoft describes OneNote for Windows 10 as the "best version" when it lacks many of the basic features available on OneNote 2016. I'm sure there are several other features missing from this supposedly new and improved version, but I'll list a few problems I ran into that are of absolutely no issue on OneNote 2016.

    1. In OneNote for Windows 10 you can only insert a printout of a PDF. In order to insert a PowerPoint or Word document, etc. you’ve got to first convert the file to a PDF on your own (outside of the…

  11. Ability to merge cells in a table

I like to categorize and formulate lists in a specific format. The inability to merge cells and make a header row for my categorization makes it difficult. I realize that other tools like Word and Excel can provide more robust table formatting tools, however, basic formatting like merge cells would be nice.

  12. Embed webpages and other live content in OneNote

Please make it possible to embed an iframe. It would be so powerful for creating interactive textbooks (for example in math with GeoGebraTube)!
This is the most wished Feature for me, cause OneNote could become the Standard for new interactive textbooks as it is free on EVERY Plattform!!!

  14. Border around text blocks

It would be nice to be able to turn ON a border around a text or image block. Just like you can see the faint outline when hovering over it, it would be useful to help separate areas of a page into distinct thoughts.

Stretch Goal - Color choice for a border.

  15. Allow collapsing of multiple levels of sub-pages

Would be great if we could have the ability to collapse pages like this:

Suppose we have a section for a course, say MATH.

    MATH (collapsible)
    Module 1 (Collapsible)

     1.14

    1.15
    1.18

    Module 2 (Collapsible)

    2.1

    2.2

    (etc etc)

Right now, only the first level (MATH) is collapsible.

    Thanks!

  16. Need paper size options!

The infinite paper size being the only option forces me to keep using OneNote 2016 or a simple pdf editor instead of OneNote for Windows 10. It is impossible to export anything from OneNote if I cannot tell where the page ends--it always will format horribly.

  17. Please include the PDF Export from OneNote 2016!

The ability to export single pages, sections and entire notebooks into a pdf file is a really helpful tool, that is missed by many users.

  18. Collaborate with Microsoft To-Do

The concept is to have a "notebook" in which you could edit/create/view all todos from Microsoft To-Do.
In conjunction with To-Do reminders you should be able to "link" somehow (like the tag of Evernote) an Onenote note with a To-Do.

So you could get due day notifications for notes of OneNote through To-Do. Multiple links of notes with one To-Do could create a "tracking" system with due reminders.

To-Do is light and fast. It could be utilized more easily and giving OneNote "project management" capabilities.

    Also usefull:
Export a To-Do to onenote for further processing.

    This suggestion is for all…

  20. Sorting options for Onenote, Notebooks, Sectiongroups, Sections and Pages

Provide options that allow sorting of the various items in any of the above. This could be the normal Alphabetical or Date searches, but could also be more dynamic i.e. Contains Tag ??, Contains ?? in Subject etc. This would potentially allow things like a notebook that has sections ordered in Priority etc.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. Here are some of the results of the survey –
    • Sorting is needed for pages, sections, and notebooks
    • Sorting should persist while navigating, after close of notebook, across all devices, and be seen by people they share the notebook with
    • Current OneNote users want the following sorts – alphabetical, date created, and date modified
    • We heard from a lot of users who wanted to set section lists and page lists in a sort that they wouldn’t change often, but there was also a set of users who mentioned that they would want to live in a certain sort order, but switch to another sort order as an aid to locate specific items within their list

Thank you again for your responses. This information helps us understand the experience we need to build to match your needs.
