Turn off dark mode in just the app
I should have the ability to run OneNote in light mode without having to switch the entire iPad out of dark mode. The individual apps themselves should have a toggle for light and dark mode independent of the rest of the OS. I don’t like writing on negative space, and switching the whole iPad to light mode to accommodate for this one app is hindering my overall experience
Thank you everyone for the feedback so far, we really do appreciate it. We wanted to understand this a little better.
Could we please share some additional comments of things we were trying that it would have helped to have such a setting or toggle?
Additionally, we did want to share that on iPad if you go to “View” > “Switch Background”, you will be able to make the canvas/page be in light mode. On iPhone, if you’re on a page at the top right, tap on the “…” menu > “Switch Background”.
Looking forward to hearing back, thank you!

I'd still like to turn on light mode in the entire Onenote app without changing the system setting.

Glad this has been implemented for ‘switch background’. It would be great if possible to turn off dark mode in OneNote independently from the system dark mode, similar to the Outlook iPad app.

Please please do this. I prefer not to use dark mode on my ipad because I don't like some of the other apps (like mail) in dark mode. But I hate having the big white screen when I'm using OneNote.
Guys, switch background options is available in the view tab. Use it

It would be nice to keep dark mode for One Note, but have the writing space still be normal colors or white. Agree with several other comments - the greens are terrible, the highlighting is imperceptible, and the whites and greys blend together. However, I like the thought of leaving the menu and panel that shows the notebooks list in dark mode. It would isolate the notebook space and make it pop as well. Being able to toggle it on and off would be nice as well because sometimes I really do like the black background with white writing, like chalkboard effect. I think the "option" is key here.
I had to switch whole interface of iPad to light mode as I do not like dark mode at Onenote and there is no way to switch it to standard colors inside app.

I like to fully support, that the OneNote-App should allow to turn off dark mode independent from the iOS settings. Many of my my pages with colored handwriting notes look ugly
I agree that I would really appreciate the option to internally toggle dark mode for just this app. I prefer the dark mode in OneNote but do not like it for the rest of the operating system, so an option within the app would make much more sense for me.
Hi! On iPhone, on a page, when clicking "..." menu, I don't see this "Switch Background" setting. I see the following:
View as list
Copy link to page
Send copy of page
I can also confirm that i don't see this option in Settings.
I am on OneNote version "16.30.1" (191017)
Ok, I see this option of "Switch Background" only if I have switched iOS to Dark Mode.
I think I would like to switch mode independently of iOS device settings.. Similar to how Twitter allows in their app.
That’s exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much!
iPad had a new day and night theme. I clicked night mode, and it affected the app into night mode as well, so a feature to put it back while in the app would be really helpful
I agree with this. Dark mode especially looks really bad for inking and using different colors. I would like the ability keep OneNote in light theme while keeping my system in dark mode. OneNote for MacOS has this feature and so should the iOS/iPadOS version as well.
Please give the option to turn dark mode specifically in onenote. It may be good to use ipad in dark mode but taking notes in onenote with dark mode enabled may not be pleasing.
