Leaving (or option to leave) the section tabs at the top on the page instead of on the side
Of the new experimental features is the sections tabs moving to the side of the page instead of displaying at the top. This kills screen space as it takes a huge chunk or horizontal space for people who work with two windows side by side. If the feature is coming, please leave an option to revert back to displaying these tabs at the top of the notebook.
Bring it back. It was sooooo goood and natural.
For people who work extensively within a single SECTION but across multiple PAGES, there has to be a design that allows you to quickly switch between pages while still maximizing room for those pages when opened.
The old design allowed that. The new one doesn't.
One workaround might be to hide the section list on the left, but keep the page list open. That doesn't exist: you can hide all but the open page, or you can have section+page lists both open. That's brutal—a real waste of space, as many others have commented.
I cannot think of a good reason that, after such extensive feedback, the OneNote team hasn't moved to help users with this.

As someone who was completely unaware of the old formatting of OneNote but who has recently learned of it, having the option to revert it back to having the sections at the top would be amazing. It would be amazing, as I use OneNote both for school and personally.

Tabs down the left side of OneNote takes away far too much horizontal screen real estate. Option to choose can't be that difficult to design in. There are so few layout options in general
Why I dislike the new design:
The problem with not having tabs on top is especially noticeable if you move between tabs a lot.
The new design with the tabs on the sides means the user needs to navigate and click 3 times to move between tabs versus the old way where it was navigating and clicking only once. This might not seem like a lot but do it a couple of times and you very quickly noticed how frustrating those extra 2 clicks become. What's more is most people will read faster from left to right then from top to bottom so even just that design choice slows things down. I find the new design to be disruptive rather than intuitive
This is absolutely ridiculous, seriously? This is the first time in over 10 years I'm going to shop around for another note taking app. I have no space on my laptop. And even worse, the engineering team thought it was a good idea:
"To bring consistency across the OneNote platforms we've moved the section selection to the left side of the screen. Through user testing we've determined that (while the migration can be confusing) users find the updated experience to be more intuitive given our hierarchy structure (Notebook => Section => Page)."'
How arrogant is that? I feared Microsoft would turn into Apple, and it's slowly happening

Please give us space back. Our eye experience needs the tabs on top as it is logical to us!!!! On my knees!
Please give the user the option to choose tabs on the side or tabs on the top. Tabs on the side takes up too much of the screen, in my opinion. Please. Please. Please.
Oh dear Microsoft what have you done.
You nailed it with the old version. You didn't just have the foundations of a great application you had the whole building. The functionality, the interoperability with the rest of the platform were spot on. With this new layout / version you've taken a bulldozer to that building and in it's place built a chocolate greenhouse in the middle of the desert.
Honestly I don't know what user testing was done, but I suggest you find new users.
Please give us the option to revert to the old layout
Yes, please enable putting tabs back at the top of the page!
leave the tabs at the top on onenote!
I started using one note on the advice of a friend when attending the Microsoft Software Systems Academy Cloud Applications Development cohort and found that everything worked much more smoothly with my tabs at the top taking up less real-estate on my screen. With the recent update, It just doesn't work for how I use it. I understand updates happen, but why make it to where the user doesn't have the choice? What will end up happening is that the user will simply find some other product that will. I'm a big fan of windows 10, but when stuff like this happens, makes me want to consider becoming a Mac user...heaven forbid!
Yes please, we should have this option
I just started using OneNote on my home Mac a few days ago because I've found the PC version so useful on my work computer for the past year. Moving the section tabs from the top to the left side is a dealbreaker. With the tabs on top, there is a very small but fixed effect (a single line) on the height of the viewable area of the notes. Putting the tabs on the left side not only makes the impacted part of the screen variable (as the section tab column requires adjustment depending on the length of the section name), but it consumes much, much more of the viewable area, making what should be the primary holder of visual real estate on the screen--the notes themselves--take up half or less of the visible screen area. And while the written notes text can auto-adjust to changes in column width, it makes such notes long and scroll-intensive. Even worse, the width of docs that are inserted into notes does not auto-adjust, requiring constant scrolling left and right to read them or constant adjustment to the section tab column width to make the full content of the notes viewable.
Just because it's a cliche doesn't mean that it's not proven wisdom: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Please allow me to put sections at the top. Not sure why this is such a thing. All your documentation shows the sections at the top. Its like you are teasing people. Just give us the option.
Put the tabs back to the top....including for PCs

Don't only fix it for Mac, but also for PC. Using half the window for navigation is like docking the start menu side and stretching it across the screen... insanity.
I prefer to have the tabs at the top please. But as a compromise, why not just have both options. It is just a simple GUI change. Give people the option.
I hate this. Plz move back to top . Half of the screen is is section/page now.
Please fix this...
