Android: Background sync with push mechanism
Carlos Fernández commented
II dont have any of the restrictions you mention and my OneNote app on Android doesn't sync in the badkground:
-I have uncheck "Sync only on Wifi"
-I have check "Sync down all files and images"
-I don't force stopping the app when not running, and
-I don't restrict background data consumption for Onenote

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, OneNote on Android does support background sync. However, this can be manually restricted by using the "Sync only on Wi-Fi" and "Sync down all files and images" in the settings page. Other ways in which background sync can be restricted are through force stopping the app when not running and through restricting background data consumption for OneNote app from Android's settings. If none of these are set on your phone, and you still face issues in background syncing, please do let us and we shall investigate the issue. Thanks!
One more vote for background sync! For travelers it's a must - Anyone who uses a subway/Tube/underground, let alone a plane... or yet, locations where data is still prohibitively expensive or not even available on the way from here to there.
Great app though, love it.

(Desktop, IOS and Android user) I often see that background synch should be added for professional users - no - it is crucial for everyone. There are still folks out there who don't have unlimited data access on their phone. I prefer to update my content in general on the PC and have it on my phone when I leave the house. As mentioned, Onenote is my favorite app when it comes to take note but the sync behaviour of Onenote keeps me from using it for ToDo lists or shopping lists. Here is google notes making a better job even though it is really only usable for lists.
With Onenote it always happens that content is not available on the mobile as I didn't open the app and the content wasn't synched

Agreed this is a very important feature. We use OneNote a lot, meaning we have lots of large notebooks on the go. If we synchronise over WIFI only, we must remember to visit the pages we need in advance and sync. If we allow it to synchronise over mobile networks, we occasionally hit the issue where a huge amount of data unexpectedly syncs (and get hit with excess usage charges). It would be ideal to background sync when on WIFI.
unbelievable. Sync crippels ON.
I'm quite surprised this isn't yet included.
Please add this feature.
I also believe you should put in a background Sync mechanism, as it will help us who do business.
It is pretty asinine that this is (still) missing. Imagine a really really nice pen whose ink disappears when you leave home, requiring you to print a copy if you may need it later. Not a perfect analogy, but you get the picture. (Unless you forgot to open the app and let the picture sync...)
It took me a while of searching to conclude that this didn't already exist. Hard to believe? I use the app all the time while on the go and get back into the office to use my notes on the desktop app and....no notes. Many of the notes i take while on the road include multiple photos and so they take forever to sync on my office wifi network. To need to remember to open the app and sync notes every time is ridiculous.
With each update I hope that this has been added. So often I find myself reaching for my phone to edit a page when I have no Internet connection and the notes haven't been synced.

Auto-sync is vital. For example I cannot rely on onenote to be available on-the-go where mobile coverage is limited. And this is - for me at least - ultimate goal of mobile application, to be available anytime. At least for reading only.
Opening onenote when commuting and not seeing my latest notes is ,,, little frustrating, at least. One cannot always remember to synchronize manually.
Unfortunately, for really important notes and like - keep. It synchronizes instantly and in the background.

Synchronisation ist aktuell unerträglich langsam dauert Stunden - wenn man am PC gearbeitet hat und wartet bis alles auf dem Tablet ist. Unverständlich, da es am PC sehr schnell geht.
It's so frustrating that this isn't a feature of the android onenote. I'd use it so much more if my notes were up to date all of the time
Sync is incredibly slow, the taskbar marker is missing, and there is no background sync. Severely limits my use of the app for anything other than viewing existing notes (when I remember to sync them long before I need them)

Bringing back the old taskbar indicator which definitely showed when sync completed would also be great.

Just switched to OneNote and it's a great app but the background syncing would really make a difference to me. I'd even pay for it if the price was reasonable :)

As an Android user, this is OneNote's current biggest issue for me. I use it for nearly everything and I'm still considering switching. Often by the time my to-do list has finally synced on my phone (after sometimes up to a minute of waiting) I've already forgotten what I wanted to add.

This is a vital feature that has been on iOS since Nov 2014. I use this as my lab notebook and need the notes preloaded onto the device to be useful, not wait 5minutes for them to sync once I need them.
